Abortion... to hate it, to like it, the ugly word and should it or why should it not be... ?

A lot of folks from all walks of life regardless of upbringing, social status, religious preference or whatever position in life a person may be have their thoughts about this word. However, just as the adults that are sexually active and the medical profession that are fickle about what is right and not right about this or that. This is one of those aspects in life whether horrific or not.

Abortion deals with a pseudo-dark issue in life. Quite frankly, I'm not generally for someone to have such a procedure however, I'm not in their shoes either. But, in the event of sexual assault, incest or the life of the possible mother then that's a different matter. And should the Mom to be is with a husband, mate or companion then the pregnancy needed to contemplated prior to sex in the first place. And if it wasn't welcomed then you have assault. Then guess what? There's imprisonment for the responsible party and that can be a tricky issue depending on the circumstances.

However, should the Mom to be realize that this is not the time for the new life to come into existence then there's one aspect people have given up their power to change. Because, mind you when a woman comes into being in this lifetime she has made a Spiritual Agreement to welcome the new life into this world prior to her own arriving here. And should she realize that conditions are not favorable then, the new Mom needs to acknowledge to the new life that this is not the time for them to come about. Instead, suggest that they wait till later to come about again. This of course is best dealt with within the first 3 weeks and preferably after Mom has discovered the new news. This does not mean that I'm suggesting "medical advice" whereas I'm offering another perspective for a Spiritual Balancing.

As I sit here and think about Lughnasadh, I try to look at my year up to this point. My first thought is that I never ever dreamed of being where I am right now and doing what I am doing. The adjustment to life in Virginia has been rough, sometimes downright horrible, but I have made it through. I did my best to remain positive, to strive to keep my head on my shoulders and to remember that my path brought me here for a reason.

With that in mind, I have to think about my first harvest on this Lughnasadh. A few months ago, I would have told you that my harvest will be quite small and depressing. However, that is not the case. The Lord and Lady have brought me the abundance we need as always. My chosen family has been with me the whole time, at least in spirit, and has helped to feed my soul when I thought all was lost. I have learned a lot in these trying times and I can now claim those lessons and the bountiful harvest before me. I am thankful for this abundant harvest and look forward to the harvests yet to come at Mabon and Samhain.

I hope that all of you can look at your lives and find the abundant harvest as I have. There is more to all things than meets the eye. I am learning that more and more as I remain in Virginia carving out my new existence. May this grand adventure rage on and on!

May you all be blessed with joy, love and abundance this Lughnasadh as well.

Blessings,

Lady Bean si

Children's Crafting

Grease Paint

(Washes off with soap and water)

1 T cornstarch
1/2 T water
1/2 T cold cream
Food Coloring
small dish
spoon
baby food jars (for storage)

Mix the water and cornstarch together in the small dish until smooth. Mix in the cold cream. Add food coloring a drop at a time until you get the color you like. Seal tightly in baby food jars marked "Grease Paint".
**Keep away from eyes.

Eyes in the Dark

(An experiment with water pollution)

a potato
pottingsoil
knife
paper & crayons
2 small flower pots marked #1 & #2
2 glasses or pitchers marked #1 & #2
water
1/4 c. pollutant (laundry soap, salt, bleach, pine-sol, used motor oil, vegetable oil, or whatever contaminants are handy)

Either choose a potato with little bumps called "eyes" or put a potato in a dark cabinet until it grows "eyes", check it every day. An adult should help you cut the "eyes" off the potato with the knife. (2 strips approximately 1" wide and 1/4"-1/2" thick with at least 2 eyes per strip.) Fill the flower pots half full of potting soil and lay the pieces of potato on top facing "eyes up". Cover the "eyes" with 1" of potting soil so they are "in the dark".

Fill glass or pitcher #1 with 2 cups clean water. Fill glass or pitcher #2 with 1 3/4 cups clean water and add the 1/4 cup "pollutant" and mix it. Water pot 1 with pitcher 1 and pot 2 with pitcher 2. Set them in a sunny window. Keep them moist, but not wet. Watch them very closely for the next 3 weeks. Draw a picture of what happens every week.

Rainbow Toast

1 c. milk
4 slices white bread
4 T sugar
4 small cups or baby food jars
4 colors of food coloring
4 new paintbrushes
foil
toaster oven or broiler

Fill each container with 1/4 c milk adding a different color to each one. Lay the bread on the foil and have the child paint it with the different colors of milk (don't let it get to wet). Sprinkle sugar on top. Toast until it is slightly brown.

Many thanks to Cornwoman for these craft ideas!!!

August 1, 2002 Waning Moon Our Lady will be in her fourth phase, in her decline. Now is the time for breaking down, destruction, doing away with what does not work for healing and the wisdom for seeing this appears. This is the time of the Dark Mother, Crone & Grandmother as she does not need light to see in the depths of being. She gives us a choice to see or not to see. The question is "Are we willing to see what is there?" Her name is "Hecate," and many others according to culture.
August 8, 2002 New Moon: Our Lady will be in her first phase, she's beginning anew. Her name at this time is "Green Hecate" and many others according to culture.
August 15, 2002 Waxing Moon: Our Lady will be in her second phase waxing, thus she is building energy and focusing it for whatever need arises. Her name at this time is "Diana" and many others according to culture.
August 22, 2002 Full Moon: Our Lady will be in her third phase, totally full. This is the height of her being and fulfillment of all, as the great mother is about to give birth. Her name is "Selene" and many others according to culture.

This will be the first harvest of the Wheel of the Year. The first gleanings of sustenance for the dark half of the Wheel, of which the Oak King slowly begins to give way to the Holly King until "Yule". Now is the time when we begin to take stock of what we have sown. There are many cultures that have a connection with this holiday, some are Celtic, Norse, Scandinavian... to name a few.
Happy Lughnasadh!!!

For the Lughnasadh Family Gathering
in Asheville, NC the
Waning Moon will be in Gemini:
Gemini Moons are built for activity. This is a mutable air sign, so it likes to move around--quickly. When the Moon is here, we like to move around, tool The Moon's costume now is a coat of many colors, so variety truly becomes the spice of life.

Since Gemini is ruled by Mercury, now is when we're suddenly in the mod for conversation, puzzles, riddles, and word games. We want two--at least two--of everything, and we're a bit more restless than usual. Now is a great time for letter writing, phone calls, or short trips. It's when you'll find the best short cuts, and when you'll need to take them, too. Watch for a tendency to become a bit scattered under this fun, fickle Moon.
